Course Description
This course provides students with opportunities to develop a comprehensive understanding of business principles through inquiry, collaboration, and real-world application. Students examine how businesses identify opportunities, make strategic decisions, manage resources, respond to changing economic conditions, and create value for customers and communities. Throughout the course, learners strengthen critical thinking, communication, financial literacy, problem-solving, and ethical decision-making skills while investigating Canadian and international business practices. Using authentic case studies, current events, research projects, and technology-enabled learning experiences, students analyze how innovation, globalization, sustainability, and digital transformation influence modern organizations. Students are encouraged to develop entrepreneurial thinking, evaluate business risks and opportunities, and apply evidence-based reasoning when proposing solutions to contemporary business challenges.
Maple Ridge Academy Course Overview
At Maple Ridge Academy, learning is supported through synchronous and asynchronous instruction, collaborative activities, presentations, and project-based learning designed to prepare students for post-secondary education, employment, and lifelong success. This course is adapted from the expectations of the Ontario Business Studies curriculum and supports students in becoming responsible, informed, and confident participants in today’s dynamic business environment. Leadership theory, organizational behavior, change management, and ethical leadership are emphasized throughout the course.
