Learning Strategies 1, Grade 9/10

Based on the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum, this course helps students develop the knowledge, skills, and habits necessary to make informed decisions about education, careers, citizenship, and lifelong learning. Students examine their interests, strengths, values, and personal goals while exploring a wide range of educational and career opportunities available in Ontario, Canada, and internationally. Through reflective activities, collaborative learning, research, and authentic real-world experiences, students strengthen communication, leadership, critical thinking, organization, and decision-making skills. At Maple Ridge Academy, the course is designed to empower students to become confident, responsible, and adaptable learners who can successfully navigate changing academic, workplace, and community environments. Learners build practical skills such as résumé writing, interview preparation, workplace etiquette, financial planning, digital professionalism, and effective goal setting. They also examine the importance of diversity, equity, inclusion, ethical decision-making, and responsible citizenship in today’s interconnected world. Students develop an individualized pathway plan that connects their interests and abilities with future educational and career aspirations. The course encourages continuous self-reflection while preparing students to become engaged citizens, lifelong learners, and productive members of society.
