Course Description & Goals
This course introduces students to the exciting world of visual arts through drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, digital media, and design. Students develop creativity, technical skills, and artistic confidence while exploring Canadian and international artists. Through hands-on projects and reflective practice, learners communicate ideas visually, build a foundation in the elements and principles of design, and begin developing a personal artistic style.

Major Units
- Unit 1: Elements of Art: Explore line, shape, colour, texture, value, form, and space through introductory studio activities.
- Unit 2: Drawing & Composition: Develop observational drawing and composition techniques using a variety of media.
- Unit 3: Painting & Colour: Apply colour theory and painting techniques to create expressive artworks.
- Unit 4: Sculpture & 3D Design: Create three-dimensional works using mixed materials while exploring form and structure.
- Unit 5: Digital Art: Use digital tools to produce creative visual compositions and simple graphic designs.
- Unit 6: Art Appreciation: Analyze artworks from different cultures and time periods using appropriate vocabulary.
- Unit 7: Culminating Portfolio: Present a portfolio demonstrating artistic growth and creative reflection.
