Course Description
Based on the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum, this course encourages students to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to lead healthy, active, and balanced lives. Students explore physical fitness, mental well-being, healthy relationships, nutrition, personal safety, and lifelong wellness while participating in a variety of physical activities and inquiry-based learning experiences. At Maple Ridge Academy, students are encouraged to establish personal fitness goals, develop self-confidence, and recognize the importance of maintaining physical, emotional, social, and mental health throughout their lives. Through practical activities, reflective learning, collaborative projects, and health investigations, students strengthen leadership, communication, teamwork, and decision-making skills. The course also emphasizes responsible citizenship, injury prevention, healthy living choices, stress management, and positive lifestyle habits. Learners examine how physical activity contributes to academic success, workplace productivity, and overall quality of life while developing the confidence to make informed health decisions. By integrating classroom learning with practical application, students become motivated to adopt healthy lifestyles that support long-term well-being and success in postsecondary education, careers, and everyday life.
